You Can’t Please Everyone

You Can’t Please Everyone

Once upon a time in far far away in the Sub-Sahara, there was a chameleon named Charlie. He was insecure and couldn’t quite find his niche. Charlie was so eager to please everyone else that he could not find his true colors. One day, Charlie was relaxing in the shade when an antelope began to graze by him. She was stunned to see him because he was camouflaged so well. She and Charlie began to talk about his many colors and she was very intrigued by the assortment. She began to tell him, “Why would you want to be green, everything around here is green. You should be tan, just like me!” Charlie, unable to resist the challenge, agreed to turn tan to match the antelope. Once he changed colors, the antelope was satisfied and continued on with her grazing. Charlie was excited and felt as if the other animals would now accept him. As he went wandering through the prairie, he met a lion. This lion looked ferocious and intimidating, but Charlie was feeling confident in his color and decided to approach him. The lion was not very happy to see Charlie and was appalled by his tan color. He roared, “Why must you be the same color as I am? You are not worthy enough to share this color with me”. Charlie was hurt and confused. He thought that his tan color would impress all of the animals. He modestly asked the lion, “Well, what color should I be?” The lion boldly responded, “You should be blue, like the water we drink and the sky that covers us”. Charlie thought about this suggestion and slowly changed his body to blue. Now Charlie was proud of his blue color because he listened to one of the biggest and most ferocious animals in the land. Just when Charlie started crawling away from the lion he met a giraffe. The giraffe said to him “Why are you blue?”  You should be brown and yellow like me”. Now Charlie was really confused because he changed his color for other animals two times already. Finally, Charlie decided to go back to being green because he realized that you cannot make everybody happy.
