There once was a rich man who had everything he could ever want. He had an immense, extravagant estate, clothes of every brand, the finest food catered for him, the newest shiniest cars, an Olympic sized pool and anything else you could ever imagine. This man’s name was Dean Rogers LVI.
Now, Dean Roger had a very loyal servant named Rodney who did everything his boss required of him. Rodney, however, was not paid very well so he could barely support his family.
One day Rodney’s sad little shed started leaking and black mold began to grow from the ceiling. They had to evacuate the day of little Jalena’s 5th birthday because the mold was toxic and they couldn’t stay a second longer. At this point Rodney had enough, he couldn’t bear to live the underprivileged lifestyle, and he couldn’t bear to see little Jalina’s tears ever again. It was time for a change. This was the last straw.
Rodney quit his job as servant of Dean Rogers LVI and began his first day at the Piedmonto, a swanky new hotel that had opened up a few blocks from his shack. He started out as a bellboy and within a year he had risen to the ranks of manager. This didn’t come easy! He had to work triple shifts and this had terrible consequences for his family. While he was making money his family was missing a father and they began to drift away. Rodney missed his daughters seventh birthday, forgot his anniversary, and Jalena’s debut as Carmen in the school opera.
Even though Rodney had missed important family events, he now had more money than he had ever had in his life. He could afford a a new car, though he didn’t have time to drive it, a 72 inch LCD flat screen T.V he didn’t have time to watch and a nice house with a sturdy roof that would never leak. But there was no one in the house to share it with and the echo’s only reinforced his solidarity.
While Rodney was becoming the well off man we know today Dean Rogers LVI had invested all his money in a seemingly successful company. Well, 2008 happened, the stock market crashed and the seemingly successful company collapsed along with Dean Roger’s entire fortune.
The Bank took everything away from Dean Roger, including his massive estate. Dean Rogers was now just as broke as Rodney was a year before. Dean Roger was upset after having lost everything and began to roam the streets. He stopped in front of the local Applebee’s and caught the eye of a beautiful woman. For some reason the woman liked him, and after only a few dates they got married at the local courthouse.
After marrying he called his parents for the first time in 10 years and reconnected over the phone, telling them of how happy he was to be blessed with a loving wife. One day, while he was looking for work he ran into Rodney at the Expressosimisimo and they began talking. During the talk Rodney realized something. He was no longer the happy man he used to be, he had lost all that was truly important to him. His wife, and his daughter
Dean Roger realized something different. He realized that with all the money he used to have he wasn’t truly happy. He had found love in a meaningful person, something that can’t be bought with any amount of money.
Rodney was nice enough to offer Dean Roger a job at the Piedmonto as a bellboy and Rodney lived happily ever after with his wife.
Rodney reconnected with his wife and daughter and became happy again. He finally realized what he truly needed and to be thankful for what he had.
The End
